Queen Sofia with a private visit to Alicante
Next Thursday, February 8, Alicante will be honored with unofficial visit of Queen Sofia to the Bank of Food Products / el Banco de Alimentos of the province.
As it was reported by diarioinfromacion.com, last year Valencia Community received 9.7 million kg of food, worth of 7.8 million euros in total, to be distributed among poor local residents. A food basket includes olive oil, white rice, breakfast cereals, canned tuna, sardines, cookies, canned fruits, milk powder, tomato sauce, pasta, etc.
The Bank of Food has been operating in Alicante since 1993. Recently its area has been increased by 916 sq.m. In total, it distributes 3% of all the food in stock of la Federación de Bancos de Alimentos de España which includes 50 food banks of Spain. Last year there have been spent 94.6 million euros on goods for the Food Bank of Spain (85% of the funds came from el Fondo de Ayuda Europea and 15% were paid by the state of Spain).
