They are no longer as they were half a century ago
Yesterday, on the 8th of March, the centre of Alicante (Maisonnave and la Plaza de Montañeta área) became the centre of women’s solidarity. About 40,000 women went out to the streets demanding their truly equal rights with men in everyday life, family, at work and in the society in general, with all the respect towards men. Alicante hasn´t witness such a massive manifestation before. Women from all over the province participated in the manifestation on the 8th of March.
Strike and manifestation of female representatives of Alicante is the evidence that Spanish women are no longer than they were in the epoch of Franco. They are not satisfied with the option of being housewives, they want to learn and realize their potential. Spanish women want to make as much money as their husbands do. They don´t want to do sacrifices and chose between their family life or work ambitions.. They do not want to choose a “female” profession that will allow them to dedicate more time to the house and kids of family life. They want to follow their professional dreams and be able to be a successful in studies, work as well as love and family life.
Modern 18-45 years old Spanish ladies want to create families with a man with equal responsibilities concerning taking care of home and brining up children.
The world has been changing so fast for the last 25 year so fast. The conservative perception of the role of a Spanish woman in the local society as a passive person who had no right to open a bank account 50 years ago, but with the official permission of her husband only, is already in the past. Such huge change should be reflected in teaching young generation of Spaniards of both sex, as well as at the state level. Old customs and imperfect labour law need to be revised.
