It is no secret that in the coastal part of Alicante province there are fish farms functioning: they are located in the sea close to El Campello, La Vila Joiosa, Altea, Calpe, Pilar de la Horadada and Guardamar del Segura. Climatic zone of Costa Blanca is ideal for the artificial cultivation of fish to supply Spaniards across the country.

According to the information by la Conselleria de Agricultura, Medio Ambiente, Cambio Climatico y Desarrollo Rural Valencian Autonomy, last year 10 254 tons of fish were cultivated in artificially created conditions in the marine waters of the province. At the same time, 14 950 tons of fish were cultivated the same way in the whole autonomy, reports

Dorada fish is “the leader” among cultivated fish types. According to the results of the past year, cultivation of it increased by 29% than the previous year: in 2016, local fish farms brought to the fish market 5,619 tons of such fish, and in 2017 – 7,258 tons. 40% of artificially cultivated fish dorada in the whole country is produced at the fish farms in Alicante province. Big amounts of fish lubina and corvina are also cultivated at local fish farms.

Currently, there are eight aquaculture facilities (fish farms) in the province of Alicante, the government of the autonomy has received application for installation and the opening of six more of them.
