Hogueras-2018 in Alicante: would you please show us the contents of your bag?
The annual celebration of Hogueras de San Juan in June in Alicante attracts hundreds of thousands of tourists to the city. So the safety of guests and residents of the municipality becomes especially important.
This year 4,000 officers of Policia Local, Autonómica and Cuerpos de Seguridad del Estado, emergency agents, hospital attendants, fire-fighters and of Protección Civil will take control all over the city during the fiesta, reports abc.es. In addition, to ensure that the celebration in the city is safe for visitors there will be used the support of 1,000 military officers, as well as officers of Guardia Civil and National Police who will be wearing civil clothes while being on service during Hogueras. They will be “invisible” for an ordinary person, still these agents will be doing their work watching people in the crowd. There will be working a special group of immediate response and a helicopter service. Particular attention will be given to the city centre, Plaza de la Plaza de Los Luceros and the streets close by.
Tourists and residents of Alicante should be prepared that policemen may ask them to show the contents of their bags, backpacks, etc. During Hogueras policemen will work with police dogs that are able to detect explosives. In some parts of the city centre, heavy flower pots will be additionally installed to prevent vehicles from entering the areas of large concentrations of people.
