The results of the study done by experts of the University of Alicante indicate that the emblematic fountain of the city situated in la Plaza de los Luceros suffers from strong vibrations caused by gunpowder explosions of the traditional pyrotechnic shows during Hogueras de San Juan celebration.

Explosive waves cause the appearance of micro fissures in the structure of the famous fountain, reports 20minutos.es. Besides, in the future Mascleta explosions can have a negative impact on the state of the construction structure of the metro station TRAM under la Plaza de los Luceros.

The research was carried out by the group of research engineers of UA/ El grupo de investigación Grupo de Simulación, Modelización y Ensayo de Estructuras (GRESMES) of the University of Alicante.
